11th Chords

Welcome back to the music theory series. Today we’re looking at the 11th chord. It’s a really colorful chord and is often found in jazz music. So what does the chord look like?

The C 11th Chord is based on the following notes: C, G, B(flat), D, F. That’s the 1 5 7(flat) 9 11 degrees of the scale.

You can create any major 11th chord on any major scale. Until next time practice building and playing your Major 11 chords.
